Who are the schools for ?

These Year 10 higher education summer schools are for you if you are unsure about university or college.
This could be because your parents didn't go to university or college when they were younger, not many people in your school go on to university, or because family or personal issues are getting in the way of your making plans.
So, if you are ...
  • Thinking about taking AS-levels or vocational qualifications
  • Not sure if university or college is right for you.

And are....

  • The first, or one of the first, members of your family to think about going to university or a higher education college.
  • From a minority ethnic background
  • Disabled, have a sight or hearing problem, dyslexia or a learning difficulty
  • Living apart from your family, or in the care of the local authority
If you answered 'YES' to the above....then summer school is for you !
Coming along to a summer school will be particularly useful if you don't know anyone who has been to university that you could ask for advice on what it's like and how to choose what to study.
We aim to answer all your questions (and some you haven't thought of yet !)

Disabled students and students with special needs are welcome on the summer schools.
If you have any special needs please write them on your application form. You are the expert on your particular need so your summer school coordinator will probably telephone and talk to you before you arrive.
IF YOU NEED INFORMATION IN LARGE PRINT, ON COLOURED PAPER OR ELECTRONICALLY - JUST TELL US !
Likewise, if you need to stay in a room with special adaptations we can make sure that wherever possible we meet your needs.

These summer schools are funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and places are available to pupils who are resident in these local authorities :

Blackburn with Darwen

Blackpool

Cheshire and Warrington

Cumbria

Greater Manchester (all boroughs)

Greater Merseyside

Most people wonder if they will enjoy it and end up having a great time.

It's a fantastic opportunity to find out whether higher education could be for you.
